Passenger stabs cab driver in La Mesa, flees

SAN DIEGO -- Police are searching for a man who stabbed his cab driver in La Mesa late Monday night. 
 
According to La Mesa police, a cab driver had picked up a man in San Diego and was driving him through La Mesa when he began to have an uneasy feeling about the way the passenger was acting. He pulled over in the area of a Shell gas station in the 3800 block of Massachusetts Avenue at around 11:45 p.m.  
 
Police said that when the cab driver exited the vehicle, the passenger followed, came up behind him and stabbed him with an unknown weapon. The suspect then ran west on Waite Drive. 
 
The driver was rushed to a nearby hospital. He was conscious and talking to paramedics as he was being placed in the ambulance. His condition was not confirmed. 
 
The suspect was described as a black man with a green shirt and blue jeans. La Mesa police are searching for him. 
 
A motive for the attack was not confirmed.
