Oceanside motorcyclist killed, another rider suffers major injuries in LA-area crash

OCEANSIDE (CNS) - A motorcyclist from Oceanside was killed and another rider suffered major injuries when they were involved in a crash with two vehicles on the San Diego (405) Freeway near Los Angeles International Airport.

Daniel Steven Lape, 27, was killed when both he and another motorcyclist both ran into the back of an SUV that had stopped in the carpool lane of the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash was on the 405 at Howard Hughes Parkway, near Culver City.

Lape, riding a 2014 Honda CB500F, was in the carpool lane with another motorcyclist on a 2016 Yamaha R63 at 10:25 p.m. Saturday when they both rearended a 2009 Lincoln Navigator that had stopped due to heavy traffic ahead.

The impact of the crash caused the SUV to be pushed forward into the rear of a Hyundai.

Paramedics rushed Lape to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The other motorcyclist, Wyatt Jay Portis, 21, of Oceanside was also transported to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where was treated for major injuries.
