North County doctor surrenders license amid exam room allegations

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - A series of lurid sexual misconduct allegations in the exam room has cost a North County doctor his license.

In the past year, we've heard former patients' claims involving Dr. Manuel Tanguma inside the exam room; of groping and other sex acts, that often began with lewd talk.

Tanguma was a general practice doctor at Graybill Medical in San Marcos for 7 years. At least 13 women have filed complaints, some with the state medical board, others in civil suits.

In October, prosecutors declined to file criminal charges.

His medical license - first suspended has now surrendered in a settlement deal.

Tanguma's lawyer calls him an "excellent physician", but says the "crushing financial burden" of the case led to the deal.

“My clients are happy their courage to come forward resulted in Dr. Tanguma surrendering his medical license. They hope that through their example, other women will be empowered to stand up against sexual violence,” said Jessica Pride, who represents 10 of the women in a civil suit.
