President-elect Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he would work to bring down the cost of Air Force One planes being developed by Boeing.
“The planes are too expensive, and we’re going to get the prices down, and if we don’t get the prices down, we’re not going to order them,” Trump said on the Today show, just moments after he was elected Time’s Person of the Year.
Trump’s latest comments come after he raised eyebrows Tuesday, in a tweet questioning the high cost of the aircraft on Tuesday.
He urged the government to cancel the order, writing, “Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!”
According to Fortune, the Twitter remark brought Boeing’s stock price down by about $2 a share.
Meanwhile, on the Today Show, Trump denied accusations that his tweet was payback for Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenberg’s criticism of his trade policies.
