There's a post making the rounds on Facebook this week that claims the Federal Emergency Management Agency is hiring field inspectors and paying $4,000 to $5,000 weekly. But is it true?

It was true.

Rumor control website Snopes.com looked into the posts that went viral as Hurricane Harvey moved through Texas and found confirmation that FEMA was hiring, and it pays well. But FEMA says there was an Aug. 31 deadline to apply.

Texas isn't the only place where FEMA is hiring, however. As of Friday, Sept. 1, it listed at least six cities throughout the U.S. where it needs employees. Find out how to apply here.

What's false? A viral social media post that 1,000 inspectors are needed and those hired will earn pay of $2,000 a week for 90 days.

The phone number associated is also false.

FEMA addressed the rumors with this Facebook post:
