Fitbit's new smartwatch will allow diabetics to check their blood glucose level just by looking at their wrist.

In a press release on Thursday, Fitbit announced it was teaming with DexCom for the new feature which will be available on the upcoming Fitbit Ionic.

According to Fitbit, users of DexCom continuous glucose monitors — electronic devices that continually monitor a diabetic's blood sugar using a hypodermic sensor — will be able to use the new tool, which is expected to be available in 2018.

DexCom CEO Kevin Sayer said the goal is to help a person with diabetes by providing information in a convenient and discreet manner.

Fitbit CEO James Park said his company's new Ionic smartwatch — a first for the fitness tracking outfit — aims to give users more tools to improve their overall health.

The Fitbit Ionic is expected to be released in October.
