DETROIT — A new grandma in Michigan is being thanked for her quick thinking after helping her daughter deliver her baby three months early.
When labor started, it was less than 20 minutes later and the baby was out.
It's the story baby Tuhnia will probably hear the rest of her life. It's the story of her surprise, but determined entrance into the world.
The delivery happened around noon on Saturday, July 28. At 6-months pregnant, Tiana Williams started to feel bad, she said.
“I kinda thought I was just having Braxton Hicks contractions and then I went to the bathroom and felt I had to push," Williams said.
“She went to the bathroom and I was scared and she came out of the bathroom and her baby was coming out,” said the grandmother, Tina Brown.
The soon-to-be grandma didn't waste a moment.
"I pushed her back on the bed and I grabbed the baby and we just called 911 and stayed on the phone," Brown said. "It’s my first grandbaby ever."
Moments later, Tiana met Tuhnia.
Williams said her mother was amazing throughout the entire process, and that she was actually very calm during the delivery.
“I was shocked I thought I was dreaming. Didn’t think it was real,” Williams said.
Both mom and baby are at the hospital and are doing well.
