SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- In an effort to reduce the number of homeless people living in San Diego, the Regional Task Force on the Homeless added a new member to their team.

The agency Monday added Tamera Kohler as their chief operating officer.

Kohler said she hopes to bring her experience working in Seattle and Utah to help tackle the homeless problem in San Diego.

“My plans are and my hope is that I can bring experience from both of those areas, both Seattle and Utah, to help the leadership here coordinate, organize our efforts and ultimately reduce the numbers of individuals that are experiencing homelessness in San Diego,” said Kohler.

Kohler said Seattle and San Diego both have something in common. Both cities have some of the highest numbers of unsheltered individuals in the nation.

“You really just need a good menu of everything in every community whether you have a very small homeless population or a larger,” said Kohler. “Nationally we know that you need a little bit of everything to have the system really work well.”
