A major announcement is expected today from NASA.

Boeing and SpaceX, a commercial aerospace company, will get NASA contracts to transport astronauts into space, according to CNN.

A news conference will be conducted at 4 p.m. at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NASA said it will discuss “the return of human space flight launches to the United States.”

According to CNN, the Space Shuttle program at NASA ended in 2011 due to funding concerns.

Currently, NASA crew members ride on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft about six times per year, at a cost of $70 million per seat, CNN said.
