SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A teenager with Down syndrome who left his elementary school in the Teralta East neighborhood of Central San Diego was found safe hours later, three miles away.

San Diego Police said Alejandro Torres-Villasenor, 17, left Ibarra Elementary on Orange Ave about 1:15 p.m. A substitute teacher was filling in at his vocational program and lost track of Alejandro, who has the mental capacity of a four year old.

After a search of the area, Alejandro was found about 4 p.m. at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Rolando, three miles from the school.

His mother told 10News he had previously taken the bus to the center and repeated the trip this afternoon.

Alejandro was safely reunited with his family.
