SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Marine killed in a military plane crash in Mississippi last month will be laid to rest Friday at MCAS Miramar.
Sgt. Chad Elliott Jenson was one of 16 service members who died after the KC-130T transport plane they were in crashed in a rural area 100 miles north of Jackson, Mississippi, on July 10.
Military officials said the plane was on its way to Naval Air Facility El Centro.
Jenson, 25, served in the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion out of Camp Lejeune as part of Marine Corps Special Operations Command.
Earlier this week, Jenson's body was returned to San Diego and honored with a special procession to the El Camino Memorial Park.
Following the Friday morning service at the Airman Memorial Chapel on MCAS Miramar, Jenson will be buried at Miramar National Cemetery.
Raised in Redondo Beach, Jenson was a star football player at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach before joining the Marine Corps in 2010.
A public ceremony is planned for Aug. 20 at Mira Costa High School's stadium.
He is survived by his wife Jessica and stepson Jackson; his parents Robert and Susan Jenson; and his brother Michael.
