CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (KGTV) - A Camp Pendleton Marine who died on the base last week passed away from injuries he sustained after a tree fell on him during routine physical training, base officials said.
According to base officials, the incident occurred on the morning of Aug. 4 on base property. Officials said 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Cody J. Haley "died due to injuries he incurred during routine morning physical training after a tree fell on him."
Haley was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said Haley, who was from Hardin, Iowa, was deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in March 2016. He was assigned to the 1st Marine Division.
Base officials said, "We are heartbroken at the tragic loss of a member of the Marine Corps family, and we will do all we can to comfort the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased."
