SAN DIEGO (KGTV)--The San Diego Zoo announced Wednesday the death of Mila, the African elephant, due to unknown reasons.
A statement by the Zoo indicated that Mila's body was discovered by animal care staff Tuesday morning. Since the cause of her death is unknown, a post mortem necropsy will be performed at the zoo's Elephant Care Center.
Mila, 44, came to the zoo in 2013 from the Franklin Zoo in New Zealand.
"She quickly became a well-known member of the herd," the statement read. "She will be missed by staff, volunteers and guests"
