SAN DIEGO – A man reportedly carrying a loaded gun escaped after a foot chase through the Gaslamp District with California Highway Patrol officers overnight Sunday.
The incident began at around 1:30 a.m. Monday when CHP attempted to pull over a SUV for a traffic infraction in the 400 block of Market Street. During the traffic stop, a passenger exited the vehicle and ran from officers.
During the foot chase, the suspect dropped a loaded .357 Smith and Wesson Magnum revolver in the street. The suspect eventually got away. One officer cut his shin badly during the pursuit.
Meanwhile, the driver and another passenger were arrested. There was no immediate word on what charges they face.
CHP did not release a description of the suspect who escaped.
