SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Rick Reynolds is appealing to the public to help track down the man who sucker punched him.
Reynolds, who works for a medical marijuana delivery service, was preparing to make a delivery around 5 p.m. on June 13th. He was standing at the corner of 15th and Imperial when he says someone came from behind and sucker punched him.
He woke up in the ICU some 8 hours later in terrible pain.
His eye socket and nose were broken, while his jaw and chin were shattered in 7 different places.
Witnesses say a muscular man in his 30s - possibly homeless - walked up to him with something resembling brass knuckles and knocked him out.
The man tried to grab Reynolds’ bag, but bystanders scared him off.
Reynolds started delivering more than 5 years ago, leaving a successful career as a chef. Medical marijuana had helped his wife, after seizures and a slow-spreading brain cancer put her in a coma for a year.
Despite the violent attack, Reynolds remains a passionate advocate and vows to “continue his work to provide access for patients in need.”
A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help with his expenses.
