SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - A restaurant manager who was stabbed in the face at a Rubio's location Monday is expected to survive his injuries.
Robin Rodriguez, who's identity was confirmed Tuesday to 10News by his wife, was stabbed in the face inside a Rubio's restaurant on Highway 101 Monday night.
Rodriguez was updated to fair condition at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.
Rubio's issued the following statement Tuesday:
“We are very happy to report that our Team Member is expected to make a full recovery. At the family’s request we are not releasing any personal information. We appreciate the community’s concerns and well wishes, and want to thank the first responders, and our Team Members and guests at the restaurant for their assistance.”
The suspect of the stabbing, who has not been identified, was shot and killed by San Diego Sheriff's deputies a short while after the incident, in the 3200 block of Camino Del Mar.
Witnesses said the suspect got into a fight with Rodriguez of the restaurant and was ultimately kicked out. Shortly before 4 p.m., witnesses said he came back and stabbed Rodriguez in the face multiple times.
When deputies located the suspect, he was still armed with the knife, according to deputies, culminating in the deputy-involved shooting.
The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
