OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- Investigators were working to identify who shot and killed a man outside an Oceanside home Tuesday night.
Officers were sent to the 400 block of South Freeman Street near Missouri Avenue after several people reported hearing disturbance in the street and gunshots shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday, Oceanside police Lt. Matt Cole said. They arrived to find a fatally wounded man lying in front of a nearby home.
Cole said although officers initially had no information on the gunman, Crimes of Violence investigators were working to collect evidence, identify a suspect and determine a motive for the slaying.
"Detectives are investigating the possibility that the victim and (shooter) knew each other," police spokesman Ryan Keim said. "At this point, they do not believe it was a random act."
