EL CAJON, Calif. -- Authorities Saturday arrested a suspected gunman believed to have fatally shot a 34-year-old man in an unincorporated county area of El Cajon.

Deputies with the Sheriff's Lakeside Substation received a call to investigate a possible assault with a deadly weapon at 10 p.m. Friday at a residence in the 1300 block of Oro Street.

Arriving deputies found the victim lying in a driveway of the residence with trauma to his torso, Sheriff's Lt. Kenneth Nelson said.

Deputies immediately began first aid and called for paramedics, who treated the man at the scene before transporting him to a hospital, Nelson said.

He succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving, he said. The victim's name was not released.

Sheriff's detectives took over the investigation, and sometime after 8 a.m. Saturday, 42-year-old Vincent Frank Pedersen of El Cajon was arrested in connection with the shooting. He was taken into custody at his home at 789 Oro St. He will be booked into the San Diego Central Jail on a single count of murder, the sheriff's department said in a news release.

A motive for the shooting was not disclosed. The killing was not believed to be gang related, deputies said.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, as well as the positive identification of the victim, Nelson said.
