EAST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (CNS) - A man who fell down a 40-50-foot construction hole in East Hollywood was rescued just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters used a tripod device to lift the man to the surface of the 1411 N. Hobart Boulevard work site.

Paramedics evaluated the man's physical condition and transferred him to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown, but they did not appear to be life-threatening, said Margaret Stewart, of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

He was reported trapped down the trench at 8:37 a.m.

Firefighters dropped ropes into the hole and used a ventilation system to pump in fresh air, while they planned the extraction.
