The man killed while jaywalking across an El Cajon street Thursday night has been hit by a car before. Police say this is the third time he's been hit in the past two years.
This time, the 49-year-old was jaywalking across Main street near Ballard about 6 p.m. when he walked out in front of a silver car, shattering the windshield. The man, who police say was homeless, died at the scene.
Police said the last time the man was struck by a car was about a month ago, just a few blocks west of where he died Thursday night. That time, he suffered serious injuries, police said.
This time, the man was carrying two beers when he was hit. His name has not been released at this time.
Police said the driver of the car was not speeding, had not been drinking and was likely not at fault. They said the driver stopped at the scene, was cooperating with police and will likely not face any charges.
