A pedestrian suffered life-threatening head injuries Saturday morning in the Lake Murray area when he was hit by a car that left the scene.
The victim, who was described as a man in his 50s, was discovered by a passerby lying in the gutter shortly after 6 a.m., according to San Diego police.
The vehicle was traveling southbound in the 6200 block of Jackson Drive and making a left onto the 8400 block of Blue Lake Drive when it hit the pedestrian, who was crossing the street northbound but was not using a marked crosswalk, Officer Tony Martinez said.
"The vehicle did not stop and fled the scene in an unknown direction," Martinez said.
The victim was taken to a hospital. His name was not released. The suspected hit-and-run driver remains at large. Anyone with information on the accident was asked to call police at (619) 531-2000.
