EL CAJON, Calif. – A man was struck and killed after venturing out into the Interstate 8 freeway overnight Sunday.
At about midnight, the pedestrian was struck by a Toyota sedan on eastbound I-8 near 2nd Street.
Responding paramedics attempted CPR on the victim at the scene before he was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The exact circumstances of the crash and the identity of the victim were not confirmed.
The fatal crash prompted authorities to close two eastbound lanes and issue a SigAlert, but the roadway was cleared around 1 a.m.
