SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man died and a woman had to be rescued after both fell from a cliff near the Torrey Pines Gliderport late Wednesday night.
According to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials, a woman called 911 just before midnight to report that she and her friend had fallen from a cliff. Her phone's battery died just before officials could determine her location.
Responding crews used GPS to ping her location and eventually found the 23-year-old woman clinging to a rock. The woman fell about 75 feet from the cliff, while her male friend was another 60 feet below her.
Crews were able to rappel down to bring the woman to safety. She suffered minor injuries.
Officials said the 23-year-old man died after suffering major trauma from the fall. His body was retrieved and lowered to the beach.
