CHULA VISTA, Calif. - A seemingly innocent conversation turned into a disturbing surprise for a South Bay woman.

On Sunday at about 1 p.m., Mary was out for a walk on Santa Luna Street near Olympian High School when a white SUV pulled over and the passenger window rolled down.

Mary, who stood about 5 feet from the SUV, said the driver -- a clean-cut Asian man in his mid- to late 20s -- asked her for directions to Otay Lake.

For the next minute, Mary said she talked while the driver said little, appearing zoned out.

"I looked at him and I'm wondering does he understand me?" said Mary.

Around that time, Mary looked down and froze.

"I glanced down for a split second and that's when I saw what he was doing," said Mary.

Mary said the man had exposed himself and was touching himself. She abruptly wished him good luck and ran off, before he drove away.

"[I] wanted to cry. The whole thing felt sickening; I fear next time he will assault someone," said Mary.

Because the incident happened near a high school, Mary is worried the next victim might be a young person.

Chula Vista police told 10News there have not been any similar incidents in the area.
