A 69-year-old man was charged with murder Friday after prosecutors say he killed his son, because the son was gay.

On March 29, Los Angeles police officers responded to a residence in North Hills where they found the bodies of Amir Issa, 29, and his mother. Prosecutors say Issa was shot outside the home and his mother’s body was found inside.

Amir Issa once lived in San Diego and attended UC San Diego.

Shehada Khalil Issa has been charged in the shooting and now faces one count of willful, deliberate, and premeditated murder in the case.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Shehada Issa had allegedly threated to kill his son on previous occasions because he was gay.

An investigation into the death of the victim’s mother is ongoing.

Issa is due back in court on April 11.

He is being held without the possibility of parole.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
