SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A head-on collision involving a wrong-way driver prompted lane closures on Interstate 805 in the South Bay early Thursday morning.
The crash was reported shortly after 5 a.m. on southbound I-805 near Palm Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials said a red sedan was traveling northbound on the southbound lanes when it collided with a Jeep.
Responding emergency crews cut through the wrecked red sedan to pull the female driver out. The woman appeared to have suffered major injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
The driver of the Jeep and a passenger suffered minor injuries and were not taken to the hospital.
The crash is under investigation.
Multiple lanes on southbound I-805 approaching Palm Avenue were closed as emergency crews responded to the crash. Lanes were reopened just before 7 a.m.
