SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego police are searching for a man suspected of stabbing a woman while she was on her phone at Fashion Valley Mall Wednesday.

The 58-year-old woman told police was texting on her phone near the Container Store just after 3:20 p.m. when a man came up from behind her and punched her in the back. The Container Store (7097 Friars Rd.) is located near the Bloomingdale’s department store, PF Chang’s and North Italia restaurant on the east side of the mall.

The woman chased after the man but lost track of him near the state Route 163 off-ramp.

Officers said the woman noticed she was bleeding and called for help. When paramedics arrived, they realized she had been stabbed.

Police said the woman appeared to have a puncture wound to her right shoulder blade that did not appear to be life threatening. However, she was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The suspected attacker was last seen heading east on Friars Road. He is described as white, in his early 30s, 6 feet tall, with light brown hair and blue or green eyes. The man was wearing a green polo shirt and brown pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego police.
