SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found by her daughter in a City Heights home.

At around 8 p.m. Thursday, a woman called 911 to report that she found her mother "injured and unresponsive" inside her home in the 4000 block of Estrella Avenue.

Police said the woman had been trying to contact her mother on the phone, but was unable to reach her, prompting her to visit the home.

The victim, police said, had "traumatic injuries to her upper body." She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police described the victim as a 53-year-old Asian woman, identified by her daughter as Roun Choeun.

A neighbor told 10News he recalled seeing Choeun, a man that was either her boyfriend or husband, and another friend at the home on Wednesday night.

However, the neighbor said there was a fight between the couple that same night.

The neighbor told 10News he believes he saw the husband/boyfriend come back to the home at some point on Thursday morning.

“He came in with a hood on. Nobody saw his face. He [went] inside the house and opened [the door] for a few minutes … He screamed, slammed the door and took off,” the neighbor said.

Police did not immediately confirm if they were searching for anyone specific in connection with the case.

Homicide investigators are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses in hopes of finding out what led to Choeun's death.

A GoFundMe account was started by Choeun's family.
