LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A woman died early Thursday morning after the SUV she was driving slammed into a cement wall on a La Mesa overpass.
At around 12:20 a.m., La Mesa police received a call regarding a disabled vehicle blocking the roadway on the 70th Street overpass for Interstate 8, near Alvarado Road.
Officers arrived to find an unresponsive woman inside the damaged Toyota SUV.
The 67-year-old victim was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police investigators believe the woman was traveling northbound on 70th Street and, for unknown reasons, crossed over into the southbound lanes after passing the intersection with Alvarado Road.
Her SUV appeared to have struck a curb and then collided with a cement wall before coming to rest.
The victim was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to police.
