SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A vehicle backed into a gas line in Mission Valley Monday night, causing a gas leak between two hotels and prompting evacuations.

The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Hotel Circle South, by the Days Inn and the Super 8 hotels.

The broken line, which was 1 to 2 inches in diameter, spewed natural gas for over an hour until San Diego Gas & Electric crews turned it off.

Guests at the Days Inn were evacuated as a precaution.

10News learned police are looking for the vehicle that severed the gas line.
