SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A pickup truck being pursued by the California Highway Patrol crashed into a tree in the Mountain View area late Monday evening.

At around 11:30 p.m., CHP officers attempted to pull over a truck for unspecified reasons on southbound I-805 near Market Street, but the driver refused to stop.

The truck sped away and then exited on Market Street, but when the driver tried to get back on the freeway, he lost control of the vehicle on the on-ramp and slammed into a tree up an embankment.

The driver got out of the wreckage and ran, but CHP officers -- with assistance from San Diego police’s ABLE helicopter – found him hiding in bushes and arrested him.

The unidentified driver was not injured.

Information on what prompted the attempted traffic stop was not immediately available.
