OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after she lost control of her SUV, struck a fire hydrant and drove through an Otay Mesa home early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened at around 3 a.m. on Norstad Street, near Palm Avenue, according to San Diego police.

Police said a Lincoln Navigator SUV was traveling east on Palm Avenue at a high rate of speed when the woman behind the wheel lost control of the vehicle.

The SUV sheared a fire hydrant before barreling into a house on Norstad Street, crashing through the home’s dining room and kitchen before coming to rest in the living room area.

10News learned the driver got out of the SUV and walked away from the scene, leaving her male passenger behind.

The driver was spotted a short time later and arrested on suspicion of DUI. She and her passenger were not seriously injured.

A couple sleeping inside the home at the time of the crash did not suffer any injuries.

The sheared hydrant led to a geyser that soaked the front of the home, but crews were able to shut off the water as they made repairs.

It took a tow truck an hour to remove the SUV from the home, with workers removing furniture that was lodged in the front of the vehicle.
