ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - A man suspected of shooting his neighbor during a domestic dispute in Escondido was arrested by police officers at gunpoint.

Escondido police told 10News that officers were called early Wednesday morning to an apartment complex in the 500 block of East Washington Avenue in response to a reported domestic violence incident.

According to police, Markeith Davis allegedly opened fire at his girlfriend during an altercation. The woman was not struck by gunfire, but police said a bullet hit a nearby neighbor in the foot.

It is not known how many shots were fired during the incident.

Davis, police said, fled the scene but was spotted walking in the 700 block of Escondido Boulevard at around 4 a.m.

Officers confronted Davis and arrested him. During the arrest, officers found a gun tucked in the waistband of Davis’ pants, police said.

Davis is expected to be charged with attempted homicide and assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.

The neighbor’s gunshot wound is not believed to be life threatening.
