OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Police announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a fatal stabbing case in an Oceanside neighborhood.
Oceanside police said investigators identified 28-year-old Ferris Shawn Penson as the suspect in the death of Armando Contreras.
According to police, the 32-year-old Contreras was found with a “significant” stab wound to his upper body in the 400 block of Mission Avenue just after 4 p.m. on May 19.
Contreras was rushed to the hospital to undergo surgery, but he died from his injuries.
Investigators concluded that Contreras was assaulted on North Clementine Street -- the road on which the suspect lives -- before fleeing in his vehicle. After driving several miles, he pulled over, got out of his car and collapsed, according to police.
The nature of the relationship between the victim, who alternately lived in Vista and Tijuana, and the suspect was unclear, and the motive for the stabbing was unknown, Oceanside police spokesman Tom Bussey said.
Police said Penson was located and arrested on suspicion of murder on May 21.
Penson was being held without bail in county jail in Vista pending arraignment, scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
Anyone with additional information on the case is urged to call Oceanside police Det. Bryan Campagna at 760-435-4346.
