Imperial Beach Closures

IMPERIAL BEACH (KGTV) -- More than two weeks later, county health officials announced Thursday that it's safe to go back into the waters of Imperial Beach.

The re-opened beach-line includes the south end of Seacoast Drive to Carnation Avenue (including Camp Surf) in Imperial Beach.

The ocean shoreline from the International Border to the south end of Seacoast Drive will remain closed until sampling confirms these areas are safe for water contact, officials said.

"Recent water quality testing confirms that Tijuana River flows are no longer impacting these beaches," said the Department of Environmental Health and Hazardous Materials Division.

The announcement comes after weeks of beach closures due to a sewage-contaminated runoff into the Tijuana River valley which flowed into south county beaches. The beaches were closed as a result of the heavy rainfall this season.
