SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man was rushed to the hospital Monday morning after he was shot at a downtown San Diego high-rise apartment building.

Shortly after 5:30 a.m., police were called to the Strata Apartments (969 Market St.) after a report of gunfire inside a fourth-floor unit where a gathering was underway.

The victim, identified as a 29-year-old black man, was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper body but is not expected to survive, according to police.

Officers locked down the entire building in search of the suspected shooter, but a detailed description of that person was not immediately available. Police noted the suspected shooter remains at large.

Multiple people were detained for questioning, but no arrests were made, police told 10News.

The investigation forced police to shut down Market Street, between 8th and 11th avenues for at least two hours.
