SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A semi-truck carrying boxes of strawberries caught fire as it traveled down Interstate 5 near Leucadia Thursday morning.

Authorities received reports of a semi-truck on fire on northbound I-5 just before Leucadia Boulevard shortly after 5:30 a.m.

The semi-truck was forced to pull over to the right shoulder as the fire burned in the back of the trailer.

Firefighters arrived to put the fire out and attempted to save the shipments of strawberries.

California Highway Patrol officials said the truck’s driver was taken to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

According to CHP officials, the company that owns the truck was going to send another truck to help load the product that was not destroyed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
