EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - Police are searching for a driver who hit a pedestrian and dragged him in an El Cajon neighborhood early Friday morning.

El Cajon police say the incident was reported shortly after 6 a.m. in the 500 block of Ann Street.

Witnesses told police a pedestrian was engaged in an argument with a man in a dark-colored SUV when the SUV began chasing the pedestrian on the street.

According to police, the SUV hit the pedestrian, dragged him hundreds of feet, and then left him on the front yard of a home before speeding away. Police believe the SUV may have blown a tire as it drove off, based on damage to the curb and a loud boom heard by several neighbors.

"We just heard a woman screaming as loud as she possibly could," said a homeowner who lives at that ranch-style home that had damage to the front lawn from the incident.

The victim, witnesses said, looked to be in his 30s and was still able to walk after being hit. According to witnesses, the victim claimed he could not remember anything about the incident.

A woman who was with the victim appeared to be his wife or girlfriend, witnesses said.

The victim, who was not identified, was rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

A detailed description of the SUV and its driver was not immediately released.

The homeowner whose front yard suffered damage added, “Whatever happened to our yard is always something we can repair. But a life is just much more important."
