OCEANSIDE (CNS) — The San Diego Seals announced Friday that the team will play its home games going forward at Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, after eight years at San Diego's Pechanga Arena.
The professional indoor lacrosse team is the third local sports team in recent years to move away from Pechanga Arena to the Oceanside venue, following the San Diego Sockers indoor soccer team and the Indoor Football League's San Diego Strike Force.
Frontwave Arena, which opened two years ago, also hosts the NBA G League's San Diego Clippers and Arena Football One's Oceanside Stealth.
San Diego Seals CEO Paul Speaker said in a statement, "Frontwave is a first-class, intimate venue that brings fans closer to the action than ever before. Every seat feels like you are right on top of the floor, creating the kind of electric, high-energy environment that makes Seals games so special. We cannot wait to welcome our loyal fans, introduce new families and lacrosse supporters to the Seals, and build an incredible home-field advantage together at Frontwave Arena."
Seals Head Coach and General Manager Patrick Merrill called it "a coaches' dream to have his team play in a new and modern arena like Frontwave. With the fans being so close to the action, it's going to have amazing energy on game nights and create a tremendous home-field advantage for our players."
In its announcement, the team said the new venue would provide an opportunity to reach new fans in North County, as well as southern Orange County and the Inland Empire.
The Seals said the team is also working on transitioning existing season ticket memberships to Frontwave Arena. New season ticket memberships are being accepted at sealslax.com and frontwavearena.com.
Phil Salvagio, owner of Frontwave Arena, said "The Seals are a tremendous addition to our growing sports lineup, and their arrival gives us an opportunity to introduce the excitement of professional lacrosse to even more fans throughout North San Diego County and the broader region. We'e looking forward to working together to create memorable experiences for Seals fans and building something special together at Frontwave Arena."
