CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) – The community is coming together Wednesday to help a couple injured in a shooting in front of a Chula Vista Costco store.

San Diego radio station Channel 933 is hosting a diaper drive in hopes of collecting 10,000 diapers for the infant child of Angelina Perez and Samuel Valdez.

The event for the family is being held at the Walmart in the Broadway Plaza (1150 Broadway) from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Diapers of all sizes are being accepted.

On June 17, Perez and Valdez were putting groceries in their car after a Costco shopping trip when police said both were shot by Perez’s former boyfriend.

The couple’s young child was in a stroller near the car but was not injured.

Perez and Valdez are still in the hospital as they recover from their injuries. Their baby is in the care of family members.

A GoFundMe account was established to help support the couple.
