San Diego pot shops -- deemed essential by California -- see spike in business amid outbreak

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- California has deemed marijuana dispensaries as essential during the state’s stay-at-home order, and many pot shops in San Diego have seen a spike in business as they stay open for their clients.

The owners of Hi Kei in Fairmount Park told 10News business is calming down a bit after they experienced a boom in sales last week.

Hi Kei’s owners said many of their clients are military veterans who use their products to deal with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The owners also told 10News that while they are open, the make sure to have the shop professionally cleaned and disinfected every night.

Additionally, Hi Kei workers also wear masks and gloves when conducting business.

San Diego police said marijuana dispensaries in the city can remain open as long as they abide by social distancing guidelines.
