SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was hospitalized after being shot as he sat in his car at a Southcrest park, San Diego police said.

The incident happened just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 4100 block of Newton Avenue, according to police.

The 26-year-old victim and a 19-year-old man were sitting in a BMW when two men walked up to the car. Police said the two men pounded on the car’s windows before they opened fire.

The victim was shot in the left thigh and left wrist, police said. The 19-year-old was not hurt.

The victim drove the bullet-riddled BMW away from the park and called 911 to report the shooting. Police made contact with the BMW on National Avenue and the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, the suspected shooters are believed to have fled the park in a white pickup truck. Twelve shell casings were recovered at the scene, police added.

Descriptions of the two suspected shooters were not immediately available.
