SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police are investigating a shooting involving an off-duty law enforcement officer in the Grantville area.
Just before 2 a.m. Thursday, a man who identified himself as an off-duty officer contacted police to report someone breaking into vehicles at a condominium complex in the 6300 block of Rancho Mission Road, just east of Interstate 15.
10News learned that the off-duty officer discharged his firearm as the situation unfolded.
When SDPD officers arrived at the scene, they spotted a man hiding in bushes near the condos. After detaining him for questioning, he was let go because the off-duty officer could not determine if that was the person he shot at.
San Diego police are looking into the matter, and it has not yet been determined what led to the gunfire, how many shots were fired, or which agency the off-duty officer is with.
No injuries were immediately reported.
