CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) - It was an emotional homecoming for many military families at Naval Air Station North Island Sunday.
Members of ‘The Griffins’ returned home after a ten-month, around-the-world deployment. During the 296-day deployment, the Helicopter Strike Squadron helped provide 250 days of armed surveillance and reconnaissance coverage for the Navy Aircraft Carrier, Abraham Lincoln, and her escort ships.
The team was supposed to return home before Halloween, but their deployment was extended. The Abraham Lincoln has spent the past few months in the Middle East as tensions rose between the U.S. and Iran.
The Abraham Lincoln is expected to return to San Diego on Monday.
