SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Members of one San Diego family have now participated in three separate COVID-19 vaccine trials.

The mom in the family, Leslie Sullivan, first signed up for Moderna's vaccine clinical trial last year and months later, her sons followed her example participating in trials from other vaccine makers.

On Friday, 18-year-old Connor Sullivan spent most of his morning participating in the Novavax vaccine trial. He received an injection, but doesn't know if he got the actual vaccine or a placebo.

Connor is a type 1 diabetic. He's participated in clinical trials for diabetes before and says there was no question about participating in COVID-19 trials.

Last month Sullivan's younger son, Kyle participated in another trial. Joining the Pfizer clinical trials that are now studying the vaccine on children to make sure it is also safe for them. Kyle is 15-years-old.

Kyle and his mom both had symptoms so they both suspect they received the actual vaccine and not the placebo.

Connor is due for his second injection from the Novavax trial in three week.
