SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A rideshare driver escaped with minor injuries after apparently falling asleep at the wheel and crashing his car in the Pacific Beach area.
The incident happened at around 1:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of Mission Bay Drive, according to San Diego police.
After nodding off, the Uber/Lyft driver struck a pole and then flipped onto its side before coming to rest in the middle of the street.
Some witnesses rushed to help the driver out of the wreckage, and emergency crews treated him for minor injuries at the scene.
One witness told 10News, “He said he was trying to pull over on the freeway earlier and just ‘micro-slept’ for a second …”
Police evaluated the driver for possible DUI and determined he was not under the influence.
