CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A tense standoff between police and a woman suspected of firing off several gunshots during a domestic dispute in an Otay Ranch apartment complex ended peacefully early Sunday morning.

Chula Vista police received calls at around 5:30 a.m. about gunshots at the Rosina Vista Apartments located at 1551 Summerland St., across from Otay Ranch High School.

According to Lt. John Autolino, responding officers were told by witnesses that up to six shots were fired and that a car sped away from the scene. Witnesses also told police that the shooter was in one of the apartments at the complex.

The woman was barricaded in the apartment for about five hours before surrendering to authorities.

"After hours of trying to make contact with the person in the apartment, she came out compliant with her hands up and was taken into custody without incident," Autolino said.

A weapon has not been recovered, Autolino said.

Autolino said at least one victim was involved but is not cooperating with the investigation. Their status is unknown at this time, but it is believed they were not injured.

The incident caused several neighbors to be evacuated as officers scrambled to secure the area.

One witness told 10News that they heard screaming between a woman and a man, then heard gunfire.

"I wouldn't expect anything like this to happen here," said Giselle Umbas. Umbas, 14, said she ran into her parent's room to take shelter after being startled awake by the sound of gunfire.

Despite the incident, Umbas and her family said they feel safe in their "quite and peaceful" community.

"I feel safe here," she said. "I'm surprised it happened, but I feel very safe."
