Pickup truck slams into big rig on SR-163

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A driver was sent to the hospital after crashing his pickup truck into the back of a big rig on a Miramar-area freeway Thursday morning.

The collision occurred at around 5 a.m. on southbound state Route 163 near state Route 52, according to the California Highway Patrol.

10News learned a pickup truck was traveling southbound when it struck the back of a semi-truck that was pulled over on the right shoulder of the freeway.

The impact caused the pickup to spin out into the middle of the freeway.

Just after the pickup crash, a two-vehicle wreck occurred but no injuries were reported in that collision.

Lanes were shut down as emergency responders worked to remove the pickup’s driver from the wreckage. The driver suffered injuries of unknown severity.

The incident was cleared by 6:20 a.m.
