Deadly car fire in Fallbrook labeled 'suspicious' by deputies

FALLBROOK, Calif. (KGTV) — A deadly car fire that occurred Saturday morning is now under investigation, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.

Just after 5:30 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers and firefighters responded to reports of a car fire located in the area of Sandia Creek Drive and De Luz Road.

Authorities say as soon as the fire was knocked down, a dead body was located in the vehicle.

Due to the suspicious nature of the incident, the Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded to the scene to take over the investigation, sheriff's officials said.

According to SDSO, the cause and manner of death, along with the victim's identity, will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office.
