SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was killed Thursday morning in a vehicle crash off Interstate 805 in the Kearny Mesa area.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-vehicle wreck happened just before 6:10 a.m. on the northbound side of I-805, near Balboa Avenue.
CHP officials said the red Acura Integra was traveling "at a high rate of speed" when the driver lost control of the car and veered off the freeway, overturned and then crashed into a pole.
The 20-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Due to the emergency response, authorities shut down the northbound SR-163 ramp to northbound I-805, as well as the northbound I-805 right lane near the northbound SR-163 ramp.
